• When is your Box Office open?
We're open for your convenience half an hour before every regularly-scheduled Strand film showing, and an hour before concerts and special events. Just walk up to the window when you're in the neighborhood and we'll be happy to help!

• What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa, Master Card, and Cash. Sorry, we do not take checks.

• How do I buy tickets for Strand events online?
It couldn't be easier! Just visit our online box office and choose your show. If your show is a reserved-seat attraction, just click on the main floor or the balcony seating charts, and you'll have a chance to choose your own seats. (*Please note there is a $2 per ticket processing fee for all internet orders.)

Tickets for live events that are presented by our renters and outside promoters/presenters may NOT always be available for sale on our website. However, our website will always tell you where and how you may purchase tickets for these events.

Tickets for Bay Chamber Concerts attractions are sold exclusively through the Bay Chamber Concerts organization. For more information on BCC events at the Strand, visit their website.

• Can I buy my tickets by phone?
You certainly may! Just give us a call any weekday from 10am to 4pm, and our staff will guide you thru the process. (*Please note there is a $2 per ticket processing fee for all phone orders.)

• Why do you charge a ticket-processing fee?
We charge this fee to help off-set the costs associated with being able to offer an internet and phone ticketing service. Compared to other ticketing services, our fees are on the lower-end, and we think they are quite reasonable.

• How do I pick up my tickets?
No need to make a special trip or worry about the mail - just come to the Strand the night of the show and your tickets will be waiting for you in the box office or at the designated WILL CALL table.

• How do I buy tickets for Metropolitan Opera simulcasts?
Tickets will be available for each season's "Met At The Movies" series on an announced schedule, and the best way to buy them will be in person at the Strand Box Office during regular operating hours, through our online box office, or by phone at 207-594-0070. You can buy tickets for individual shows - or a convenient season ticket package! Please note that "Met At The Movies" is a reserved seat attraction.

• Can I get a gift certificate?
Absolutely! The STRAND GIFT CARD is a welcome gift for any occasion, and is available for any amount. You can use it like cash for tickets to any regularly scheduled Strand film, for treats at our concession stand, or at our Balcony Wine Bar. We also offer a special ten show discount card for our regular movie patrons. Ask about this offer at the box office next time you come by!

• Balcony Wine Bar? You've got a Balcony Wine Bar?
Yes indeed - right upstairs you'll find a selection of better wines and beers, and a friendly and courteous bartender waiting to serve you. It's a very civilized way to enjoy a movie or concert. Please be aware, though, that under state law you must be 21 or older to sit in the balcony when the bar is open. Our current Balcony Wine Bar hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 5-8:30 pm, and the Bar is also open for concerts and selected special events. Please check our current schedule!

• How come you're only showing one movie? Didn't the Strand used to show two?
The Strand was built in 1923 as a classic single-screen neighborhood theatre, and it wasn't until 1979 that the balcony was closed off to provide space for a second screen. When the theatre was renovated in 2004-2005, it was decided to return the auditorium to its original single-screen configuration. In fact, many of our patrons feel some of the best seats in the house are in the balcony!

• How do you chose your movies?
The Strand prides itself on its program of fine independent films. We follow the development of upcoming films closely, and work closely with our film booker in working to secure those pictures we feel would appeal most to our audience. Film booking is a highly competitive business, and we can't always get the film we want exactly when we want it - but we're always working to bring new and exciting cinema to Strand audiences.

• How are your movies shown?
We're proud to say that most of our films are shown the traditional way - using real 35mm film and a side-by-side pair of state-of-the-art Kinoton projectors, attended by a real live projectionist thruout each performance. Nothing is automated, and our system is capable of showing any 35mm film format, whether silent or sound, in the proper aspect ratio and at the correct speed. For special events, we're also equipped for various formats of high quality digital projection.

• Can you get my favorite artist for a concert at the Strand?
We're always looking for fresh, exciting live shows, so by all means drop a note in our suggestion box in the lobby. Scheduling live acts is a complicated business, with much depending on the coordination of performer schedules with available dates in our own calendar - and while we can't guarantee any particular performer at any specific time, we're very interested in knowing who you'd most like to see!

• Can I rent the Strand for my own personal event?
The Strand has proudly hosted a number of special events, ranging from corporate conferences to staff parties to weddings - and we'd be happy to talk with you about your own function. To find out more about how we can work with you in making your event happen, just call the Strand business office at 207-594-0070 ext.5, or email us at info@rocklandstrand.com.

• Can I advertise my business in the Strand Preshow or Calendar?
Absolutely. Just call the Strand business office at 594-0070 ext.5, and we'll be happy to discuss full particulars.

• What are those round things on the floor?
Some say they're convenient 1920s era stands for suave gentlemen to use when storing their top hats, but the truth is more prosaic - they're ventilation outlets for our air conditioning system, and are especially refreshing places to sit on a summer afternoon!
