THE AFRICAN QUEEN - Classic Film Series

Co-presented by the Farnsworth

Join us on Sunday afternoons throughout the winter for this classic film series being co-presented by the Strand Theatre and the Farnsworth. Hosted by Roger Dell, the Farnsworth’s Director of Education, with a Q&A discussion to follow each screening.

The African Queen is a 1951 adventure film adapted from the 1935 novel of the same name. The film stars Humphrey Bogart (who won the Academy Award for Best Actor – his only Oscar) and Katharine Hepburn.  Set at the start of WWI, Charlie Allnut is using an old steamer named The African Queen, to deliver supplies to villages in East Africa. After the death of Rev. Sayer, Charlie agrees to take the reverend’s sister, Rose, back to civilization, while simultaneously taking on the Germans.
