THE MALLETT BROTHERS BAND and NORTH OF NASHVILLE

Award winning alt-rock bands with an outlaw attitude!

THE MALLETT BROTHERS BAND is a nationally touring alt-country/rock band from Maine. Slightly more rock than country, theirs is a musical melting pot that's influenced equally by folk and singer/songwriter influences as by harder rock, punk and psychedelic sounds. Led by brothers Luke and Will Mallett, the band is rounded out by Brian Higgins on drums, Nick Leen on bass, Matt Mills on lead guitar, pedal steel and banjo, and Wally Wenzel on dobro and electric guitar. It's song-driven music that holds up under the lens of solitary listening, but that's equally apt to crank a room full of rockers into whiskey-fueled high gear.

Since forming in 2009, the band has released three full length albums and toured the country extensively, providing support for acts ranging from The Josh Abbot Band, Blackberry Smoke, Charlie Robison, and the Turnpike Troubadours, to .38 Special, Toby Keith, Chris Caigle, and Travis Tritt. Their touring circuit stretches from the Appalachian to the Rocky Mountains, from Maine to Mississippi, and they've appeared at some of the finest music venues in the country, including the Continental Club in Austin, the legendary Gruene Hall in New Braunfels TX, the Birchmere in Alexandria VA, the Bluebird in Nashville, Meadowbrook Pavilion in NH, and more.

THE MALLETT BROTHERS BAND was named "Best Band in New England," and received "Best Album in New Enlgand for  "Land" at the New England Music Awards this year.

NORTH OF NASHVILLE

Bandmates Jay Basiner and Andrew Martell, orginally part of the Maine-based THE WAY, pursued their passion for honky-tonk and the Highwaymen by forming the duo NORTH OF NASHVILLE.

Their recently released self-titled debut album revels in the gospel of Willie, Waylon, Kris and Cash, as well as their musical brothers and sisters from across the vast Americana landscape. "North of Nashville" (April 29, 2014), features 10 tracks filled with Martelle’s fiddle and mandolin and Basiner’s lead vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica and percussion, and of course, their lively harmonies. Their roots influences, natural chemistry and irresistible appeal are abundantly evident in the songs on this album, most of which songwriter Basiner confesses were written in the throes and aftermath of a divorce -- which might help explain their mix of emotional vulnerability and swaggering bravado.

Though Basinger didn’t start playing guitar and writing songs until he was 19, his piano and violin lessons began at age 6. "I owe the music that speaks to me to my father,” says Basiner, whose dad, also a professional musician, grew up in a family of music-loving railroad workers.

Martelle, who earned a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s in education from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, grew up playing classical violin. “When I got to college, I discovered all the joys Music City had to offer, and discovered my love for country music in all its forms."

In 2012 NORTH OF NASHVILLE hit the road, opening for acts including Phil Vassar, Uncle Kracker, Lake Street Dive, Freedy Johnston, Chatham County Line and Aoife O’Donovan. In 2013, the Portland Press Herald named them a band to watch, and they were nominated for a 2014 New England Music Award as "Live Band of the Year."

The polished, crisp-sounding collection showcases all the things that Basiner and Martelle are known for. There’s Basiner’s strong, engagingly twangy vocals, there’s excellent fiddle work from Martelle, and there’s an honest, sincere approach to writing country songs, which sets them apart from the legions of mainstream country artists. — Bangor Daily News
