ANTS ON A LOG Stream: Curious: Think Outside the Pipeline!

A Puppet-Powered Eco-Musical Film -- Part of the VIRTUAL FAMILY SERIES

"Curious: Think Outside the Pipeline!" by folk music duo ANTS ON A LOG is the musical story of two siblings who organize their neighbors to fight for clean air.

With the help of a songful community and a dancing pencil, Clio and Taylor learn to stand up for their beliefs, striving to make big change even in the face of some bigger, more powerful people.

Since the ANTS can't come to the Strand this spring for a live show, they created this wonderful video version of "Curious" for us instead!

This 40-minute musical is set to the ANTS' award-winning soundtrack, originally released in 2019. Watch this fun, inspiring musical come to life with the ANTS' signature balance of quirky-DIY and professional-artsy style. With sock puppets, drawings, and stop motion video, "Curious" offers children a view into the importance of standing up for community. While the plot is fictional, the musical is based on actual recent events in Philadelphia and all over the US.

What people are saying about CURIOUS:

“[Curious] encourages listeners to learn more about problem solving, and the power of uniting one’s community to fight for social justice. Curious is highly recommended, especially for school and public library children’s music collections.” - Midwest Book Review

"An accessible and fun way for children of all ages and adults to engage in important environmental issues, such as air quality, asthma, fighting a gas plant in your neighborhood, and dealing with elected officials. All of these issues are extremely relevant... and for the central character to be a young female is additionally inspiring for children!" - Pratima Agrwal, Philadelphia Ready for 100 Campaign of the Sierra Club

About the ANTS

Visit Ants on a Log's website

Ants on a Log is Julie Be (they/them) and Anya Rose (she/her). The folky duo writes music for children and other childlike people, songfully advocating for positivity, social justice, and silliness!

Julie and Anya met at a Philadelphia drag show/dance party, and instantly bonded over their love of quirky songs with political messages. Anya was raised on Tom Lehrer and jazz standards, and Julie grew up listening to Ani DiFranco and They Might be Giants. The two began writing together, finding driving harmonies and song topics that were silly, serious, environmental, feminist, gender-bending, and just plain fun. In their off-stage lives, Julie is a music therapist and Anya is an elementary science teacher. Their powers combined make for smart and socially conscious folk, a delight for children and adults of all ages.

In 2016 and 2017 the Ants were awarded Leeway Foundation grants to write and produce their musical, "Curious: Think Outside the Pipeline!" The show is based on the true story of Philadelphia’s fight for clean air, and the plot reflects the power that youth have today in the climate change movement. In 2019 the Ants released the CURIOUS Soundtrack, and were awarded a Parents’ Choice Award for the album.
