Folk Music Stars and Maine Natives!

Ellis Paul

Folk singer-songwriter ELLIS PAUL is a key figure in what has become known as the Boston school of songwriting -- a literate, provocative and urbanely romantic folk-pop style that helped ignite the folk revival of the 1990s. His pop music songs have appeared in movies and on television, bridging the gap between the modern folk sound and the populist traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger.

Born in Aroostook County, Maine, PAUL is a gifted songwriter who can tell his own story while simultaneously encapsulating the essence of the people and places who have defined his era overall. A singular storyteller, PAUL'S words reflect personal experiencs yet also express feelings, thoughts and sensibilities that many different people can relate to, regardless of age or upbringing... The exhilaration of the open road... A celebration of heroes... The hope for redemption... Descriptions of those things that are both near and dear.

These are the scenarios that emerge from his new album, "Chasing Beauty," a set of songs which detail, in typical Paul fashion, stories of people and places that reflect larger truths about us all.

PAUL has recorded nineteen albums, received numerous critical kudos (inlcuding 15 Boston Music Awards), toured for over 20 years  (becoming a staple at the Newport Folk Festival), and played Carnegie hall and venues from Alaska to Miami, Paris and London. He’s also released a pair of children’s albums, earning him honors from the Parent’s Choice Foundation for both.

Despite his success and sense of history, Mr. Paul remains an artist with his eye on the future and an interest in discovering the transformative potential of his music. - New York Times

Howie Day

HOWIE DAY is known for his energetic, heartfelt shows, where he connects with audiences through the strength of his songwriting and his quirky sense of humor. His warm tenor voice “soars into fluttering, high registers, but also grates with real, pleading grit,” as one critic put it. After sales of over a million albums and two Top 10 hits, DAY is back on the road showcasing old favorites, as well as new material from his upcoming studio release.

DAY'S emotionally resonant lyrics and inventive melodies have earned him both critical praise and a legion of devoted fans. DAY has stretched the boundaries of acoustic music from the very start, often using loop-sampling techniques and effects pedals, along with live percussion and vocal harmonies, to create lush layered sounds with a single guitar. He later expanded that sound to include electric instruments, strings, and a full backing band, a move that resulted in such pop/rock hits as "Collide" and "She Says."

A native of Bangor, Maine, DAY wrote, financed and released his first effort, "Australia," which was named Best Debut Album at the 2001 Boston Music Awards. He went on to sell over 30,000 copies of "Australia" as he navigated the independent music scene, toured extensively, and continued to hone his craft.

DAY'S major-label debut, "Stop All The World Now," included the Top 10 radio hit “She Says” and the platinum single “Collide.” Day is currently immersed in the recording process of his fourth studio album, which he is crafting with the help of longtime friend and producer Mike Denneen.

Day’s sophistication rests in not only his effortless charm, but his ability to tell vivid stories in complex (and heartbreaking) shades. - Performer
