Cancelled due to medical issue

Co-presented by Georges River Land Trust

Kathleen Dean Moore, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Oregon State University, writer, moral philosopher, and environmental thought-leader, will be addressing climate change in her talk, “Great Tide Rising: Toward Clarity and Moral Courage in a Time of Planetary Change.” Artist Rob Shetterly will be unveiling his portrait of Kathleen, as part of his series “Americans Who Tell the Truth.” There will be a public reception following the presentation.

Inspired by Moore’s radical and whole-hearted call to action in her book, "Great Tide Rising," Cynthia Trone invited the Oregon author and philosopher to bring her wisdom to midcoast Maine. “The urgency of coming together to address climate change begins with each of one of us, exactly where we are. It’s uncharted territory, and I invite our vibrant, caring community to be a part of this collaborative, compassionate and courageous evening.” The Strand Theatre and Georges River Land Trust are presenting partners or the evening, with The Dancing Elephant sponsoring.

The evening will include an interactive panel discussion, including a Q & A from the audience, addressing local and personal responsibility for the global environmental crisis. An exhibition of portraits of environmental activists by Rob Shetterly will be on display at the Strand.

Kathleen Dean Moore speaks with integrity and hope in this time of urgency: “Even as seas rise against the shores, another great tide is beginning to rise - a tide of outrage against the pillage of the planet, a tide of commitment to justice and human rights, a swelling affirmation of moral responsibility to the future and to Earth's fullness of life.”
