The debut feature from Indian director Ritesh Batra

The film, set in Mumbai, stars Irrfan Khan as Saajan, a government accountant who is nearing retirement. He pays for his lunch to be delivered at work from a local restaurant, but his order is mixed with a meal prepared by Ila (Nimrat Kaur), an unhappy housewife who thought she was making lunch for her husband. Ila eventually realizes that her husband never got the food she prepared, and puts a note in the next lunch. Soon she and Saajan develop a pen-pal relationship. Gradually, their notes become little confessions about their loneliness, memories, regrets, fears, and even small joys. They each discover a new sense of self and find an anchor to hold on to in the big city of Mumbai that so often crushes hopes and dreams. Still strangers physically, Ila and Saajan become lost in a virtual relationship that could jeopardize both their realities. Screened at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.
