MASH - The Original Movie

A Fundraiser for the Rockland District Nursing Association

This 1970 war comedy stars Donald Sutherland as Hawkeye Pierce, Elliott Gould as Trapper John McIntyre, and Sally Kellerman as Major Margaret “Hot Lips” O'Houlihan.  Based on the experiences of Dr. Richard Hornberger of Round Pond, Maine, the personnel of the 4077 MASH unit cope with the horrors and stress of the Korean War with unconventional dry wit and amusingly creative means.  This hit black comedy spun off the popular, and long-running tv-series, M*A*S*H, and established director Robert Altman as one of the leading figures of Hollywood's 1970s generation of innovative and irreverent young filmmakers. MASH became the third most popular film of 1970 after Love Story and Airport, and it was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Rockland District Nursing Association (RDNA), due to the very generous support of the First Advisors.
Prior to the screening, have your photo taken with a vintage WWII Army Jeep in front of the theater.  A “moving museum” displayed courtesy of Bill Komulainen, this 1943 model, complete with original insignia and gear, saw action in Europe during WWII and is the same style used in Korea during the time of M*A*S*H.  As the Jeep is over 70 years old, it will only be available for viewing from 3 pm – 7 pm, weather permitting.  50/50 raffle tickets will be sold the night of the event.  The winner will be drawn before the movie begins, and must be in attendance.

Caring for the community since 1929

The need for RDNA nursing services is steadily growing, with nursing hours in February 2016 jumping 30% over the year before.  Today RDNA regularly sees close to 300 predominantly elderly area residents living independently in South Thomaston, Owls Head, Cushing, St. George, Warren, Union, Thomaston and Rockland.  Without federal/state funds or insurance reimbursement, RDNA relies on gifts and contributions to cover the majority of operating costs, with $0.90 of every dollar returning to the community in service.  Only through the generosity of this community has RDNA, for 87 years, continuously been able to focus on serving residents who otherwise may not have access to care.
