We regret that we will not be able to present MEDEA on Saturday, Oct. 22 as originally scheduled. Please see below for details.*
Having triumphed at the Met in some of the repertory’s fiercest soprano roles, Sondra Radvanovsky stars as the mythic sorceress who will stop at nothing in her quest for vengeance. Joining Radvanovsky in the Met-premiere production of Cherubini’s rarely performed masterpiece is tenor Matthew Polenzani as Medea’s Argonaut husband, Giasone; soprano Janai Brugger as her rival for his love, Glauce; bass Michele Pertusi as her father, Creonte, the King of Corinth; and mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova as Medea’s confidante, Neris. Carlo Rizzi conducts. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to movie theaters across the globe.

* Along with hundreds of other theaters across the country, we at the Strand Theatre recently learned that, due to a last-minute change by the Met, we must replace the satellite receiver equipment that makes the broadcasts possible. Generous donors in our community quickly stepped up to help us purchase the new equipment; however, slow supply deliveries compounded by the sudden demand for equipment and installers meant that it was not possible to have our new system installed in time for Saturday's performance broadcast. The Met offered theaters a secondary, temporary fix to reposition our equipment to access another satellite with a weaker signal, but that effort has not been successful, despite multiple attempts by technicians. Bringing Strand audiences a high quality broadcast is our top priority, and with the current signal strength, we are not able to do that. A recorded version of MEDEA will be presented on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1pm instead. We hope that if you're holding a ticket(s) for the October 22 show you'll be able to attend on that day instead -- but if not, we are happy to refund your tickets. The MEDEA Encore show scheduled for November 1 will be presented as planned, and we are confident that we'll soon have this issue resolved, new equipment installed, and run the rest of the Met Season on schedule. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this situation has caused! The Strand Team |
