Co-presented by the Strand Theatre

Norman Kehling survived 30 years of incarceration at the Maine State Prison, seven of which were spent in isolation. This original play is an uncensored account of those years and the chaotic childhood that preceded them.

Norman entered prison with a seventh grade education and emerged in 2018 with a Bachelors degree and a passion to help others caught in the prison system. David Troup plays Norman and a cast of characters, giving voice to the varied dimensions of moral injury that lead to incarceration and the the complex layers of repair that accompany freedom.

This grim, funny, true story of a journey through dozens of foster homes, institutions, jails, and prison, to release into the 'free' world is for anyone who cares about justice, has been affected by our system of incarceration,  faced 'impossible ' choices, or had to summon the will to beat the odds.
