Strand on the Air

A Live Radio Variety Show

Join us for the premiere of Strand on the Air, an authentic, original live radio variety show brought to you by the Strand Theatre’s very own creative team! Presented in the style of popular radio programs like A Prairie Home Companion and Live From Here, this 90 minute show will include music, comedy, drama, and special guests, all performed in front of a live studio audience and broadcast over the Midcoast airwaves.

Led by Strand House Manager Liz McLeod, this season’s holiday-themed installment of Strand on the Air will feature announcer Dan Bookham, music by Brittany Parker and the Blake Rosso Band, skits performed by the Strand Family Players, and special guests the Extension Chords from the Midcoast Music Academy.

The show will be broadcast live on local station WRFR (93.3).

Admission to the performance is free and donations will be accepted to support the Strand Theatre’s education and community programs. Don’t miss your chance to experience all of the fun and excitement of being part of our LIVE studio audience – you never know what might happen next!

Doors open at 4:15pm; Liz will "warm up the audience" starting at about 4:45pm, and the broadcast show will begin promptly at 5pm.

The Blake Rosso Band performs high energy, rootsy Americana music to get your feet stompin’! Based out of Mount Desert Island, the group features Beau Lisy on percussion, Jim Coffman on mandolin and fiddle, BrittanyParker on bass, and Blake Rosso on guitar. They have been playing venues around the Downeast area for the past four years, including the All Roads Music Festival, Bangor Arts Exchange, Criterion Theatre, and Bucksport Waterfront. They released their first album, Forest Ave, this summer and will be working on their second in the studio this winter. More information and show dates can be found at blakerossoband.com.

The Extension Chords have been performing jazz and jazz-inspired music in the midcoast area for two years, with performances at art galleries, fundraisers, and participation in the popular "Trekkapaloossa" competition. Recently, pianist Myles Kelley, bassist Katherine Bowen, and drummer Owen Markowitz made an appearance with multi-instrumentalist Stu Gurley at the Maine Conference Of The Arts, where they performed a set of Miles Davis reinterpretations entitled "Shades Of Blue". The Extension Chords are excited for future opportunities including a set at the Strand's "Holiday Radio Show" and are looking forward to releasing a selection of original compositions in early 2019.
