STRAND ON THE AIR: August Edition

Maine's own Radio Variety Show!

Broadcast on WRFR (93.3 Rockland and 99.3 Camden) at 5pm, then available as a podcast.

You can feel it in the air – summer’s almost over. And you can hear it on the air, as The Strand Theatre’s radio variety series wraps up the summer season with its “Cousin Of Social Distancing Broadcast.” Strand House Manager Liz McLeod and the Strand Family Players will present  original radio comedy sketches, Strand Education Coordinator Brittany Parker is back with more of her distinctive music, announcer Dan Bookham will lend a word or several -- and they’ll be joined by Peter Hynd of the popular Thomaston-based quartet Playin’ Possum, who will offer up a few solo numbers.

On the comedy front, news commentators Karl Stuffel and Camomile Bourgeois of “All Things Rescinded” return to take a look at the pandemic back-to-school season, along with a follow-up report on what exactly happened to all that toilet paper that got hoarded last spring, and an up-to-the-minute investigative look at who it is that’s throwing all those discarded PPE masks on the ground. Liz will offer an inside look at how radio sound effects come together, along with a firm explanation of why radio sound work isn’t called “Foley,” Professor Bookham will recite the poem “How Can It Be The End OF Summer, When Summer Was Never Really Here?,” and down in Abysmal Point emotions are running high as Lilita heads back to college while Mrs. Grunden frets. Strand Family Players Lili Bonnarigo, Olivia  Vanner, and William Zall are back again to help out with the laughs.

Like the three previous programs over the summer, the latest broadcast was assembled and edited by McLeod from bits and pieces submitted by the various cast members working from home. Following the broadcast, the show will be available as a download from popular podcast platforms.
