Co-presented by the Farnsworth

Join us on Sunday afternoons throughout the winter for this classic film series being co-presented by the Strand Theatre and the Farnsworth. Hosted by Roger Dell, the Farnsworth’s Director of Education, with a Q&A discussion to follow each screening.

West Side Story is a 1961 American romantic musical drama film adapted from the 1957 Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn was inspired by William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Two teens (Tony and Maria) from rival New York City gangs fall in love, but friction between their respective friends escalate toward tragedy. The film won 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, becoming the record holder for the most wins for a movie musical. The music was composed by Leonard Bernstein, the book was written in part by Stephen Sonheim, and the choreography was directed by Jerome Robbins.
