Education

The Strand Education Program aims to create a safe and welcoming space for children, students, and families to experience and participate in top-quality live arts programs from around the globe.

Watch our Education Program Video and check out this year’s Family Series lineup!

As a rural Maine community, opportunities to engage with artists who represent different regions of our country, and our world, are limited by location and cost. Here at the Strand, we see an opportunity to share the resource of our incredible facility to bring the Midcoast community together for events that would otherwise be unavailable in this region. We offer these programs at no cost to schools and a Sliding Scale ticket structure for the community, believing strongly that economic status should not be a barrier to accessing opportunities for enrichment.

In a regular operating year, our Education Program includes:

●  Student matinees at the Strand Theatre featuring world-class performances of music, theatre, movement, and puppetry

●  In-school and after-school arts learning workshops that correspond with, and enhance, the performances at the Strand

●  The Strand Family Series and Sunshine Series, two collections of live public performances from visiting artists, designed for all ages to enjoy and offered at a Sliding Scale ticket structure ($0-20). Check out our Upcoming Shows!

●  Special screenings of educational films, as well as Metropolitan Opera and National Theatre Live broadcasts

●  Tours of the theater

●  Collaborations with other community organizations to provide further arts learning and family engagement activities
