The story is loosely based on the life of legendary photographer Richard Avedon, who helped give the film its signature look. Despite the contributions of creative giants in every department – the virtuosic charm of Audrey Hepburn, the footwork of Fred Astaire, the music of George Gershwin, and costumes from Edith Head and Hubert de Givenchy – this is a bonafide masterwork that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
