Part of the JUBILEE SERIES: 40th Anniversary!

The second of the George Lucas/Steven Spielberg INDIANA JONES epics is set a year or so before the events in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). After a brief brouhaha involving a precious vial and a wild ride down a raging Himalyan river, Indy gets down to the problem at hand: retrieving a precious gem and several kidnapped young boys on behalf of a remote East Indian village. His companions this time around include an easily frightened nightclub chanteuse  and a feisty 12-year-old kid named Short Round. The thrilling adventure includes a harrowing rollercoaster ride in an abandoned mineshaft and Indy’s rescue of the heroine from a ritual sacrifice.

Our JUBILEE SERIES celebrates the experience of movie-watching in theaters, with a series of films that have anniversaries in 2024! For a hundred years, film fanatics, cinefiles and general movie-goers alike have come in droves to see motion pictures on the sliver screen – settling down into comfy seats in the darkened auditorium of their favorite movie palace, with their popcorn and Mike-n-Ike’s, to be transported to lands of wonder and moments of great fervor. In recent years, the convenience of streaming at home has shifted the way that we view films, but deep down we still hold onto the feeling we got sitting in the theater.

2024 boasts a plethora of major anniversaries for films that many hold near and dear to their hearts. Over the next several months, the Strand will be offering you the chance to see your nostalgic favorites in the way you did when you first fell in love with them – in a classic theater! We’ll be showing top pick films that are celebrating their 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th anniversaries and beyond, from Indiana Jones to The Wizard of Oz. We hope to see you there!
