ShinDaiko is a Japanese taiko drumming ensemble based in Boston, Massachusetts and Rockland, Maine. As a contemporary taiko ensemble, they build on traditional taiko roots while exploring modern melodies and sounds with a multi-instrumentalist roster of musicians. The Japanese character “Shin” in ShinDaiko means “advancing” or “moving forward.” ShinDaiko seeks to always be moving forward in their musical vision, to explore new ideas and concepts, and to weave the powerful sounds of taiko with other musical influences to create their own distinct melody. The ensemble includes Ger Tysk, an artist, musician, and sailor who explores cultural exchange and the role of the sea in the Asian-American experience.

About ShinDaiko
ShinDaiko is a Japanese taiko drumming ensemble based in Boston, Massachusetts, founded in 2012. They are proud to showcase the intensity, passion and history of Japanese drumming, a tradition spanning thousands of years. ShinDaiko specializes in live performances at public and private events in the Greater Boston area as well as around New England, showcasing their drums for venues such as eclectic music festivals, arts demonstration, or Asian/Asian-American celebration. They also feature a quieter, more melodic “coffee shop set” for more intimate gatherings, featuring the talents of members on instruments such as the shinobue (Japanese flute) and sanshin (Okinawan 3 stringed lute). ShinDaiko released their first album, Omagatoki, in 2018 and are currently at work on their second studio album.
